It's out

Ok, I am in recovery with Riley and she is doing well. She actually "looks" worse than the chiari surgery. She has got a gauze wrap all around her head........looks more like the cranio surgery.

I saw the doc, and he showed me the the 4 x 8 sponge that they removed. No lie, it was the size of my hand!!! He did apologize, and he feels bad. This is a first for him .
Everyone can not believe that this happend to him. We know he is such a good doctor, it just stinks someone on his team dropped the ball!

We maybe here a bit longer. They will not let her go home if she is still vomitting. So, Thursday may come and go, and we could still be here. We'll see.

I would have to believe the doc feels terrible, but does not know how to say it, But how could you forget something that big in a little girls head.

Take care today, I will call on my home depending the road conditions if not then early evening.

That is a rather large item to be leaving behind!!! Poor little girl ... and mom. Hopefully this whole nightmare can be over soon and you can work at getting back to normal ... whatever that is!!!

Hi Guys! Cindy, I emailed you. Please drop me a line when you can. We are leaving for the RMH tomorrow and I will bring you anything that you may need.

When Gabe had his decompression surgery they told us that vomiting was normal 5-7 days post op. It has something to do with the vomit center being in the 4th ventricle of the brain and now that they have CSF flow resumed to that ventricle it sometimes takes their brains some time to adjust. She LOOKS great.

Please let me know if you need anything.

Thank goodness, it's over. But a 4x8 sponge? Holy spit! Michelle's comment was interesting -- it puts the vomiting into perspective as part of the brain function that may have been disturbed. Thanks for the prompt updates.

Hello to Riley!

I can't believe all of this is going on. I too have a few choice words for the doctor and staff who left a sponge in her small head. I don't think I would be as calm and nice as you are right now. I am here praying for all of you. Mary

Wow! I'm glad it's out. Poor Riley, having to go through an extra surgery. And man - 4x8 sounds huge! So glad it's over, though, and she can get back to recovering.

And nice that the doctor talked to you about it! Keep us posted - let me know if you need anything!

Michelle (on Brian's computer & too lazy to log him out & log me in)

Hi Cindy,
Just read what's going on and couldn't believe it. I am so sorry for all of you. I was hoping to come visit on Thursday. When you say you're hoping for discharge on Thursday, does that mean to RMH or to home?
Hang in there. Prayers as always.
Aunt Betty

HOLY cow! That is HUGE to have been left behind! Poor girl!
OK, so I just realized I never sent the letters my kids made for Riley. :(
Where can I send them that she will receive them?
